A healthy breakfast is the first step to a healthier, better life
I’ve been trying to eat more nutritious and healthy foods. I have been overweight for most of my life. I also come from a family where diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol are common.
I want to have a good quality of life and be fit, active and healthy for my children and, more importantly, for myself.
I decided to start with one meal—the most important meal of the day — breakfast.
Why is breakfast the best meal to change for a healthier lifestyle?
- Breakfast provides the necessary fuel and energy (in the form of calories) to jumpstart your metabolism and provide energy for daily activities.
- Eating in the morning can help control hunger and reduce your likelihood of overeating later in the day.
- Eating breakfast helps regulate blood sugar levels. Skipping breakfast may lead to low blood sugar, resulting in irritability, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. Whilst eating an unhealthy breakfast can cause more cravings and over-eating.
- Starting the day with a healthy breakfast will set a positive tone for the rest of your day. You are likelier to make healthier food choices throughout the day and maintain a balanced diet.
Eating healthy can be difficult if you are in a rush or do not have a morning routine prioritising a healthy breakfast. What’s worse is that supermarkets are filled with unhealthy, processed foods that are much quicker and easier to throw into our mouths in the mornings, especially on busier days.
